Anne Braden...

A prominent civil rights leader has once again passed on to their just reward. This time it was one of Louisville's own.
Mrs. Anne Braden, 81, died this morning due to complications of pneumonia.
She, along with her late husband Carl, have a rich and storied legend here and around the country. They are best known for purchasing the first home for a black family in an all-white part of town back in the early '60s.
Needless to say, that didn't sit well with the community. The home was bombed and the Bradens were charged with sedition. A historical marker now stands in their honor where this incident occurred.
Mrs. Braden always preached that civil rights were as important to whites as they were to minorities. Truer words were never said.
Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and I hope the community will prove that all her work was not in vain.
