"The Monkees" Star Davy Jones Dies At Age 66...

"Cheer up Sleepy Jean, oh what can it mean to a daydream believer and a homecoming queen..."
Back in the early 60s when I was a kid, me and my three brothers used to play "The Monkees".
Wayne was Mickey, Bill Bill was Mike,Rodney was Peter, and I was Davy.
That's right, I was the oldest and I played the smallest "Monkee."
Davy died yesterday of a heart attack and once again it reminds me of how time flies. We are losing people we grew up with...Whitney, Michael, Heavy D...
We need to make everyday count...life is too precious.
Amen.

Reality Shows...

What is it about reality shows? Is it the screaming and coniving and plotting?
Is it the fact that some of them relate so much to "real life."
I am currntly watching "Dance Moms", and "Celebrity Apprentice". and I can't get enough of either one of them.
It is crazy!
My brother Wayne laughs at me when I tell him I am entranced by these shows but HE (and I) watch "The Young and the Restless"...
Oh well, whatcha gonna do?

Happy Birthday Fats Domino!...

Yesterday was the 84th birthday of Fats Domino.
Fats was my Daddy's favorite singer and over the years he has became one of mine.
I always liked Fats singing style and song writing. With songs like "Blueberry Hill", "Ain't That A Shame", "Hello Josephine", and "I Want To Walk You Home."
Happy birthday Mr.Domino. You have brought lots of joy into me and my family's lives...

I'm Hungry...

Chicken wings...or...chicken strips...or catfish nuggets...a salad? (naw, I don't think so).
Maybe a cheeseburger?...tacos? (I like tacos...)

Birthday Cards...

I was looking at some cards I got on my birthday in January and I chuckled at some of the sentiments.
My brother Wayne sent a card that was very nice and had a moving verse:
"Having you as my brother means
I have someone to count on,
someone to laugh with and
someone to share wonderful memories.
May every moment of this special day
remind you of how much you're loved
by me throughout the year."
Ah...sweet...
By contrast, his daughter Kina sent a card with a mule on the front. The mule is saying, "My back hurts, my knees hurt and my butt hurts..."
Open the card and it says, "Getting older can be such a pain in the ass..."
Don't you just love my family?

Let The Sun Shine In...

Isn't it amazing what a little sunshine can do to a person's day.
It invigorates you, makes you feel warm and cuddly all over...
Oooooo.
Opps . my bad. I was starting to feel TOO warm and cuddly...

My Son...My Son...

Talked to my eldest son, Lil Greg last night and my heart was warmed...
He turned 32 (!) yesterday and though he is suffering through back problems, he is doing OK.
What I am most proud of is he is devloping a love of writing.
I have been a writer since 1977 and I don't know where this love of the written word came from (probably my mother). It is wonderful to see my son writing. My youngest son is heavily into music (another love of mine.)
Happy Birthday, Lil Greg...I love you and I am so proud of you...

Eye Doctor Update...

On March 12, 2012 at 10:00 AM, I will undergo the third surgery on my right eye that my doc says should restore vision in that eye.
It is a laser surgery.
As always , my reply to that is "We'll See..."
Surgery # 3...can it be the charm?

Eye Doctor Appointment...

I have an appointment with my eye doc today. They are supposed to be scheduling yet another surgery.
Still trying to get vision back in my right eye.
As always, we'll see (ahem)

A Taste Of Winter...

Brr....finally we got a little winter weather!
I was born in the middle of wintertime so I enjoy a little cold weather during th winter. No snow or ice, just a little nip in the air.
I am glad we are getting a bit of it this year. I was starting to think we were turning into Florida...

Whitney Houston...

You guys probably know by now that Whitney Houston died Saturday afternoon in a hotel room in Beverly Hills.
She was 48 years old.
When she first started recording in the 80s, I was a little skeptical, but then the hits kept coming, back to back to back.
She was an incredible singer who sold 200 million albums, won 2 Emmys and 6 Grammys.
She also won 30 Billboard Awards and 22 AMA Awards...
Wow!
The cause of her death is not yet known but I will have this for you as soon as possible.
Another great one gone much too soon...

Creator Of Lemonheads Candy Dies...

As a kid, I used to love going to the dispensary and buy "penny candy."
You know, Mary Janes, and Twisters and Now And Laters...
Good times.
I was also a big fan of Lemonheads and Red Hots and Boston Baked Beans and Atomic Fireballs.
Well I am sad to say that the creator of these great concoctions , Nello Ferrara, died last week at the age of 93.
His candy, however lives on.

My Brother Wayne...

I have told you guys about my brother Wayne. He is a great guy who has helped me through my disablities and my vision problems. He was there when Lil Poop was going through all his medical prob;ems as well.
What you may not know is that he did the same for my father before he passed away.
What a guy!
Now he is there for his wife Tanny who is going through some medical difficulties.
The wonderful thing is, he is always willing to help, no matter what, with a smile on his face.
What a guy!. I really love you, man...

Wow!!...

The Super Bowl broke another record with 111.3 million viewers. Last years game had 111.0 viewers.
If you havn't heard, The Giants beat the Patriots 21-17.

A Little Hung Over...

Well yesterday was Super Bowl Sunday and I...am...a...little...hungover... (smile)
Had a great time though...just a wee too much Kessler (It IS smooth as silk...ahem).
